Based in Tokyo, Joe Fender has been programming for over 30 years. His first major release, DEVOUR, became a cult hit by turning a simple concept into an intensely frightening experience which still makes him jump during playtests. With his new project LIVING HELL, Joe is building on everything he’s learned since DEVOUR. Inspired by favorites like Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil and Lethal Company the game blends his passion for horror with his technical background. This time he’s handling all AI and animation himself, believing that convincing creature behavior comes from marrying smart design with expressive movement, an area he feels is often overlooked in indie horror. Joe is deeply passionate about performance, networking, intuitive controls, and mechanics that are simple but impactful. He also shares insights into his process through his free Patreon blog.
Future Friends was founded in 2017 with a simple mission: help indie games get the love they deserve. Though initially focused on PR, the company has now branched out into publishing, with their debut titles Omno, Exo One launching in 2021. Recent launches include CloverPit, Tiny Aquarium, SUMMERHOUSE, Gourdlets & Slots & Daggers with more very exciting unannounced things on the way!
In the near future, the collapse of the ozone layer has bathed the earth in deadly radiation, mutating living creatures beyond recognition. Each night you and your team venture into the city, collecting specimens for the government’s research AI, DAWN-4o. Each sample helps her learn and adapt, unlocking new schematics and upgrades. But that’s only if you can make it back alive.
Fight or run from the distortions of nature that now stalk the streets. Race the clock, working to make it home before the deadly sunrise. Explore six hand-crafted city districts with building interior layouts that change each run, scavenging for crafting materials and finding water sources to manage your thermal load.
Work alone or in teams of up to four other players, choosing from a range of player characters with their own unique abilities. Stay in touch via proximity chat or walkie-talkies, share storage, and return to persistent saves. Descend into hell together – and work as a team to find a way out.
